Servicing
Fire Fighting
HELICOPTERSNZ has been at the forefront of aerial fire
suppression in New Zealand, particularly in support of the economically
valuable forest industry.
In November 2002, HELICOPTERSNZ subsidiary
Helicopters (Australia) Pty Ltd were awarded a contract to provide
two AS350B3 Squirrel helicopters on behalf of the
“Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia”
(“FESA”) to be on standby during the summer season
for fire fighting.
The helicopters are fitted with a SIMPLEX
Model 310 Fire Attack Belly Tank system which is able to
draw 1,100 litres of water in just 57 seconds, with the on-board
“Snorkel” and water pump.
These water-bombing helicopters provide aerial
support of wild fire suppression in the Perth area urban
interface.
The high degree of success achieved by the Group in the implementation
and execution of this high profile contract in its first season
is expected to lead to the expansion of this service in future bushfire
seasons.
